Introduction

In the 10-day and Mahāsatipaį¹į¹hāna Sutta courses taught by S.N. Goenka (ā€œGoenkajiā€) in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin, there are evening discourses by Goenkaji which present a step-by-step guide to the underlying principles of Vipassana Meditation. These discourses are essential for a studentā€™s understanding of the technique.

During a course, the daily discourses by Goenkaji help students understand the connection between the underlying theory of Vipassana Meditation and the practical application of the practice of the technique of self-observation. This is very helpful in establishing a daily practice and thereby receiving its benefits. This combination of presenting the theoretical and the practical has been successful over many years in bringing the practice of Vipassana Meditation to millions of people around the world.

When an Old Student completes a course, he or she is encouraged to establish a daily Vipassana Meditation practice by sitting every morning and evening. Questions may arise about what Goenkaji taught during the course regarding certain theoretical aspects of the practice connected with what they are experiencing in their sittings. Many students worldwide do not have access to facilities to review Goenkajiā€™s discourses to refresh and guide them in the theoretical aspects of their continued practice.

This website intends to provide Old Students a resource from which they can obtain access to his 3-day, 10-day and Mahāsatipaį¹į¹hāna Sutta course discourses in many different languages. The purpose of providing this access is to supplement our Centersā€™ role in the spread of Vipassana Meditation on Goenkajiā€™s behalf by supporting the practice of Old Students as well as encouraging the growth and spread of Vipassana Meditation in the world ā€“ the primary goal to which Goenkaji dedicated his life.
